GNOME 3. 2. 6 'Manchester' Desktop Environment Now Out. When people think of Linux- based operating systems, they often imagine people typing in a terminal or coding in a basement while drinking Mountain Dew - - yeah, those stupid old stereotypes still exists, sadly. While that is surely part of the user base, other users choose an open source operating system for nothing more than using their computer as a tool. In other words, some folks use Ubuntu, Fedora, or other distros just to get normal stuff done - - word processing, web surfing, and more.
No terminal. No coding. No religious- like experiences. For these Linux users, and others, the desktop environment sort of is the operating system. It is how they interact with their computer and launch their apps - - what's under the hood doesn't necessarily matter. For many, GNOME 3 is their preferred environment, and for good reason - - it is beautiful, intuitive, and getting better all the time. Today, GNOME 3. 2. Manchester' sees release. It is chock full of improvements, such as a much- needed refreshed settings menu, enhanced search, and color emoji! Yes, Linux users like using the silly symbols too!"System search has been improved for GNOME 3. Results have an updated layout which makes them easier to read and shows more items at once. Additionally, it's now possible to search for system actions, including power off, suspend, lock screen, log out, switch userand orientation lock. Log out and switch user only appear if there’s more than one user. Orientation lock is only available if the device supports automatic screen rotation.) These search features can be accessed in the usual way: click Activitiesand type into the search box, or simply press 'super' and start typing," says the GNOME Project. The project further says, "GNOME 3. Settings application. The previous grid of icons is gone and, in its place, a sidebar allows switching between different areas. The new sidebar makes it much easier and quicker to navigate the settings application and places the most commonly used settings within easy reach. It also means that the Settings window is now bigger and can be resized, which is more comfortable in a lot of situations. GNOME's network settings have been improved as part of this work: Wi- Fi now has its own dedicated settings area and network settings dialogs have been reworked, so that they are neater, clearer and easier to use."GNOME 3. You can read the full release notes here. Windows now smoothly transition when they are maximized, unmaximized or snapped to one half of the screen. As well as looking good, this makes it easier to track what’s happening on screen. The size of window thumbnails has been increased in the Activities Overview, making it easier to pick the window you want. The top bar now becomes transparent when there aren’t any maximized windows. This is more attractive and gives a better sense of space. The dialogs which inform you when an application isn’t responding have a new style, making them look more integrated and refined. Boxes, the GNOME application for virtual and remote machines, now allows folders to be shared between a virtual machine and your computer. To use this feature, just select which folders you want to share from the box settings, and they will appear as network locations in the guest. In Software, updates are now grouped by type and provide more accurate progress information when being installed. Simple Scan, the GNOME application for scanning images and documents, has had some interface improvements for 3. A new start screen provides some useful guidance, editing tools are easier to identify and preferences can be accessed from the header bar. Logs now groups similar messages together, which makes the history much shorter, making it easier to find what you’re looking for. Polari — the IRC application — has a new initial setup assistant, which makes it easy to get connected and start chatting. When you resize a file system in Disks it’s now possible to also resize its partition, which often saves an extra task. Maps has a collection of small improvements: there are new keyboard shortcuts, more information is shown about places and the last transportation method is remembered when plotting routes. GNOME’s calendaring, contacts, to do and mail applications now perform better offline — many items can now be edited when you don’t have an internet connection, and any changes will be uploaded the next time you are online. Photos has new controls for zooming. It’s now possible to add and edit reoccurring events in Calendar. Terminal now highlights and makes it easy to open hyperlinks. In Evolution, the new To Do bar allows you to view a list of upcoming events and tasks. Also, it’s now possible to use Evolution without having a mail account. Tweak Tool has been renamed to Tweaks and has gained three new settings: a switch to move window buttons to the left or right, a Disable While Typing option for touchpads and an option to show the battery percentage in the top bar. There has also been a good amount of clean up and refinement. The easiest way to try GNOME 3. Linux distribution. Ubuntu users, for instance, won't have to wait long; GNOME 3. DE for version 1. Why is My Printer Offline? there could be several reasons for that. In this guide, we will be showing you how to make an offline printer to online in Windows 10 or 8.1. Hello! a pleasant day to you. can you provide the actual printer brand and model? you may want to follow the step by step guide here http://windows.microsoft.com/en. In computing, a printer is a peripheral device which makes a persistent human- readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media.[1] The first computer printer design was a mechanically driven apparatus by Charles Babbage for his difference engine in the 1. The first electronic printer was the EP- 1. Japanese company Epson and released in 1. The first commercial printers generally used mechanisms from electric typewriters and Teletype machines. The demand for higher speed led to the development of new systems specifically for computer use. In the 1. 98. 0s were daisy wheel systems similar to typewriters, line printers that produced similar output but at much higher speed, and dot matrix systems that could mix text and graphics but produced relatively low- quality output. The plotter was used for those requiring high quality line art like blueprints. The introduction of the low- cost laser printer in 1. HP Laser. Jet, and the addition of Post. Script in next year's Apple Laser. Writer, set off a revolution in printing known as desktop publishing. Laser printers using Post. Script mixed text and graphics, like dot- matrix printers, but at quality levels formerly available only from commercial typesetting systems. By 1. 99. 0, most simple printing tasks like fliers and brochures were now created on personal computers and then laser printed; expensive offset printing systems were being dumped as scrap. The HP Deskjet of 1. Inkjet systems rapidly displaced dot matrix and daisy wheel printers from the market. By the 2. 00. 0s high- quality printers of this sort had fallen under the $1. The rapid update of internetemail through the 1. Even the desire for printed output for "offline reading" while on mass transit or aircraft has been displaced by e- book readers and tablet computers. Today, traditional printers are being used more for special purposes, like printing photographs or artwork, and are no longer a must- have peripheral. Starting around 2. D printing became an area of intense interest, allowing the creation of physical objects with the same sort of effort as an early laser printer required to produce a brochure. These devices are in their earliest stages of development and have not yet become commonplace. Types of printers[edit]Personal printers are primarily designed to support individual users, and may be connected to only a single computer. These printers are designed for low- volume, short- turnaround print jobs, requiring minimal setup time to produce a hard copy of a given document. However, they are generally slow devices ranging from 6 to around 2. However, this is offset by the on- demand convenience. Some printers can print documents stored on memory cards or from digital cameras and scanners. Networked or shared printers are "designed for high- volume, high- speed printing." They are usually shared by many users on a network and can print at speeds of 4. The Xerox 9. 70. 0 could achieve 1. A virtual printer is a piece of computer software whose user interface and API resembles that of a printer driver, but which is not connected with a physical computer printer. A virtual printer can be used to create a file which is an image of the data which would be printed, for archival purposes or as input to another program, for example to create a PDF or to transmit to another system or user. A 3. D printer is a device for making a three- dimensional object from a 3. D model or other electronic data source through additive processes in which successive layers of material (including plastics, metals, food, cement, wood, and other materials) are laid down under computer control. It is called a printer by analogy with an inkjet printer which produces a two- dimensional document by a similar process of depositing a layer of ink on paper. Technology[edit]The choice of print technology has a great effect on the cost of the printer and cost of operation, speed, quality and permanence of documents, and noise. Some printer technologies don't work with certain types of physical media, such as carbon paper or transparencies. A second aspect of printer technology that is often forgotten is resistance to alteration: liquid ink, such as from an inkjet head or fabric ribbon, becomes absorbed by the paper fibers, so documents printed with liquid ink are more difficult to alter than documents printed with toner or solid inks, which do not penetrate below the paper surface. Cheques can be printed with liquid ink or on special cheque paper with toner anchorage so that alterations may be detected.[6] The machine- readable lower portion of a cheque must be printed using MICR toner or ink. Banks and other clearing houses employ automation equipment that relies on the magnetic flux from these specially printed characters to function properly. Modern print technology[edit]The following printing technologies are routinely found in modern printers: Toner- based printers[edit]A laser printer rapidly produces high quality text and graphics. As with digital photocopiers and multifunction printers (MFPs), laser printers employ a xerographic printing process but differ from analog photocopiers in that the image is produced by the direct scanning of a laser beam across the printer's photoreceptor. Another toner- based printer is the LED printer which uses an array of LEDs instead of a laser to cause toner adhesion to the print drum. Liquid inkjet printers[edit]. Liquid ink cartridge from Hewlett- Packard HP 8. C inkjet printer. Inkjet printers operate by propelling variably sized droplets of liquid ink onto almost any sized page. They are the most common type of computer printer used by consumers. Solid ink printers[edit]Solid ink printers, also known as phase- change printers, are a type of thermal transfer printer. They use solid sticks of CMYK- coloured ink, similar in consistency to candle wax, which are melted and fed into a piezo crystal operated print- head. The printhead sprays the ink on a rotating, oil coated drum. The paper then passes over the print drum, at which time the image is immediately transferred, or transfixed, to the page. Solid ink printers are most commonly used as colour office printers, and are excellent at printing on transparencies and other non- porous media. Solid ink printers can produce excellent results. Acquisition and operating costs are similar to laser printers. Drawbacks of the technology include high energy consumption and long warm- up times from a cold state. Also, some users complain that the resulting prints are difficult to write on, as the wax tends to repel inks from pens, and are difficult to feed through automatic document feeders, but these traits have been significantly reduced in later models. In addition, this type of printer is only available from one manufacturer, Xerox, manufactured as part of their Xerox Phaser office printer line. Previously, solid ink printers were manufactured by Tektronix, but Tek sold the printing business to Xerox in 2. Dye- sublimation printers[edit]. A disassembled dye sublimation cartridge. A dye- sublimation printer (or dye- sub printer) is a printer which employs a printing process that uses heat to transfer dye to a medium such as a plastic card, paper or canvas. The process is usually to lay one colour at a time using a ribbon that has colour panels. Dye- sub printers are intended primarily for high- quality colour applications, including colour photography; and are less well- suited for text. While once the province of high- end print shops, dye- sublimation printers are now increasingly used as dedicated consumer photo printers. Thermal printers[edit]. Receipt printer printing a Twitter timeline. Thermal printers work by selectively heating regions of special heat- sensitive paper. Monochrome thermal printers are used in cash registers, ATMs, gasoline dispensers and some older inexpensive fax machines. Colours can be achieved with special papers and different temperatures and heating rates for different colours; these coloured sheets are not required in black- and- white output. One example is Zink (a portmanteau of "zero ink").[7]Obsolete and special- purpose printing technologies[edit]Epson MX- 8. Remember that when you write: My. Array = Range("A1: A5. My. Titanfall is a multiplayerfirst- person shooter video game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It was released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One on March 1. Xbox 3. 60 version ported by Bluepoint Games[3] was released April 8, 2. The game was highly anticipated as the debut title from developers formerly behind the successful Call of Duty franchise. In Titanfall, players control "pilots" and their mech- style Titans, and fight in six- on- six matches set in war- torn outer space colonies. The game is optimized for fast- paced, continual action, aided by wall- running abilities and populations of computer- controlled soldiers. Up to 5. 0 characters can be active in a single game, and non- player activity is offloaded to Microsoft's cloud computing services to optimize local graphical performance. The game's development team began work on the title in 2. Titan concept grew from a human- sized suit into a battle tankexoskeleton. The team sought to bring "scale, verticality, and story"[4] to its multiplayer genre through elements traditionally reserved for single- player campaigns. The 6. 5- person project took inspiration from Blade Runner, Star Wars, Abrams Battle Tank, and Masamune Shirow of Ghost in the Shell. Titanfall won over 6. E3 2. 01. 3 reveal, including a record- breaking six E3 Critics Awards and "Best of Show" from several media outlets. It also won official awards at Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show. Titanfall received generally favorable reviews. Reviewers praised its balance, Smart Pistol weapon, player mobility, and overall accessibility for players of all skill sets, but criticized its thin campaign, disappointing artificial intelligence, and lack of community features and multiplayer modes. Critics considered the game a successful evolution for the first- person shooter genre[5][6][7] but did not agree as to whether the game delivered on its anticipation.[8][9][1. On March 1. 2, 2. Microsoft Windows, Play. Station 4, and Xbox One.[1. It was released on October 2. Gameplay[edit]Titanfall is a shooter game played from a first- person perspective. Players fight as free- running foot soldier "pilots" who can command agile, mech- style exoskeletons—"Titans"—to complete team- based objectives.[1. The game is set on derelict and war- torn colonies at the Frontier fringe of space exploration as either the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) or the Frontier Militia.[1. Online multiplayer is the sole game mode, but contains single- player elements such as plot, character dialogue, and non- player characters (NPCs).[1. Titanfall has no offline, single- player, or local splitscreen modes, and does not support system link over a local area network (LAN).[1. Respawn founder Vince Zampella described the game as bringing "scale, verticality, and story" to the first- person shooter genre of multiplayer gaming.[4]Up to twelve human players[1. Titans can be deployed periodically, based on an onscreen timer, which must complete its countdown to zero before a Titan can be summoned. Killing other players reduces the amount of time remaining.[2. When summoned, players are told to "standby for Titanfall", whereupon a Titan drops from the sky, surrounded by a protective forcefield.[2. Unlike player- characters in games like Call of Duty and Battlefield,[9] pilots are agile and accumulate momentum while running (similar to Tribes).[4] Players run on walls, double jump with a jet pack, vault over obstacles, glide across ziplines, and chain together combos.[9] Pilot and Titan controls are identical except where the pilot's double jump becomes the Titan's dash,[4] as Titans cannot jump.[2. The Titans, somewhere between battle tanks and a mecha,[9] are slower than the nimble pilots.[2. Battles include artificial intelligence soldiers (human grunts and robotic spectres) that are designed as human player competition, support, and scenery.[2. Games end with a race to the losing team's evacuation dropship.[2. The pilot's tactical abilities include x- ray vision, invisibility cloaking, and regenerating speed boosts.[2. Pilots use ten traditional customizable weapons, including a semi- automatic shotgun, machine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and the Smart Pistol Mk. The latter locks onto multiple targets before firing multiple shots in a burst. Players generally require three Smart Pistol shots to die.[1. The pistol can also shoot around corners.[2. All pilots have anti- Titan weapons equipped.[2. Pilots can hop on a Titan's back to "rodeo" and shoot its weak spot, or otherwise use four anti- Titan weapons to take them down.[1. Player- pilots can eject from Titans that take too much damage, and the Titan replacement timer is reset upon the Titan's death.[2. There are three unique Titan classes, variants of light, medium, and heavy, with inversely related speed and armor: [2. Atlas, the bulky Ogre, and the fleet- footed Stryder.[1.
